Winter is the perfect time of year for duct cleaning services. Your home is going to be closed up pretty tightly when the temperatures start to drop so you need to make sure the air inside your home stays clean and your heating bills remain under control.
When you schedule your annual heating system service, think about including duct cleaning services as well. Here are some of the factors you should consider:
- Noticeable mold, mildew and other pollutants – If you notice black mold or mildew forming on your vents, ceiling or walls, duct cleaning services are probably a good idea. Without it, the spores will remain in the air that your family breathes. Also, there may be a moisture problem inside your ducts that is causing the mold growth so that needs to be addressed as well.
- Significant dust or dirt problems – When your air conditioning system kicks on, you may notice a light cloud of dust or dirt coming out of your vents. If so, a thorough cleaning can help remove the buildup and restore your air quality.
- Presence of critters, insects or other pests – Vermin and insects build nests and carry debris into your ducts that can block airflow, causing your energy bills to rise. If you have an issue with pests in your ducts, make sure they’re removed and then schedule a cleaning to get rid of the nests and debris.
- Peace of mind – Many homeowners simply want to know that their air is clean and healthy. This may be the case, especially if elderly people or small children live in your home.
It’s important to remember that duct cleaning usually does not need to be performed regularly. It can be very helpful for some homes but only if you have one or more of the problems listed above.
